The Washington County Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) is designed to treat the needs of military veterans who have found themselves in the criminal justice system. The VTC is a criminal court program designed for offenders whose honorable military service is somehow linked to their criminal conduct; for example, a wounded warrior who subsequently developed an addiction to opiates and is now facing criminal drug charges.

The VTC is a collaborative effort between the Washington County District Attorney's Office, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Washington County Circuit Court, Washington County Community Corrections, and Washington County Veterans Services. Its goal is to address the underlying causes of a veteran's criminal conduct, whether it be Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or any other condition related to their military service, so that they can return to being a proud, productive, law-abiding and honorable citizen. By partnering with the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System and local Washington County resources, the VTC involves intensive supervision and treatment and connects the veteran to wraparound services including housing and employment opportunities.
