Meet the District Attorney

Kevin Barton is the District Attorney for Washington County. He was elected to office in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. Prior to becoming District Attorney, Mr. Barton served as a career prosecutor in the Washington County DA’s Office where he prosecuted a variety of crimes, including murder, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, fraud, and theft.

Under Mr. Barton’s leadership, the mission of the Washington County DA’s Office is seeking justice and protecting our community. Seeking justice means ensuring every action meets the highest legal and ethical standards. Protecting our community means ensuring that public safety is a priority. Mr. Barton believes in the importance of holding criminals accountable while providing opportunities for rehabilitation and ensuring crime victims and survivors receive justice.

Mr. Barton is a member of many charitable and non-profit boards and committees including CARES Northwest, the Washington County Family Justice Center, the Oregon District Attorney’s Association, the Oregon Department of Justice Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Intervention Advisory Council, Washington County Public Safety Coordinating Council, the Building Bridges of Understanding Steering Committee, the Washington County Major Crimes Team, and the Oregon Diversity Legal Job Fair Steering Committee.

Mr. Barton is a frequent speaker at various community groups and events throughout Washington County. Additionally, he has authored multiple published articles.

Publications

Mr. Barton was raised locally and lives in Washington County with his wife and three children. He is a graduate of Gonzaga University and the University of Notre Dame Law School.
