
HILLSBORO, Ore- On February 20, 2025, a Washington County jury found Edwin O Hernandez-Rodriguez, age 49, guilty of rape in the first degree and invasion of personal privacy. On February 21, 2025, Judge Brandon Thompson sentenced the defendant to 306 months in prison. Deputy District Attorney Matt Wise prosecuted this case.
On January 15, 2014, the victim in this case disclosed to her grandfather that the defendant sexually abused her and would often spy on her while she showered. This abuse took place in Hillsboro. The grandfather lived in Gervais, Oregon, and contacted local police to report these crimes.
The victim was interviewed by police and medical experts at Liberty House, a child advocacy center in Salem. She provided additional details of the abuse.
The case was presented to a Washington County grand jury. The defendant was indicted on the above charges in June of 2014 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The defendant fled the state and was eventually arrested in Glendale, Arizona in February of 2023. He was extradited to Oregon for trial.
The Washington County District Attorney’s Office commends the victim for her bravery in reporting this abuse. This office also acknowledges the Hillsboro Police Department, the Gervais Police Department, the Oregon Department of Human Services, the United States Marshals Service, and the Glendale Police Department for their assistance on this case.
The defendant will be transferred to the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.
