On Friday, April 5, 2018, the Washington County Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team held a public event on the courthouse steps to commemorate the 35th annual National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Led by MDT chair and Chief Deputy DA Kevin Barton, the speakers highlighted the importance of child abuse prevention work in our community. The event was attended by numerous members of the law enforcement, city councilors, victim advocates, and members of the media.
After remarks from Chief DDA Barton, CARES NW Executive Director Kevin Dowling, and WCSO Chief Deputy Shawn Fischer the ceremony culminated in attendees planting the ceremonial Pinwheels for Prevention garden in front of the historic courthouse. The blue pinwheels represent the healthy and happy childhood free from abuse and neglect that we long to see for every child. The pinwheels will remain planted to raise awareness throughout the month of April.
