HILLSBORO, Ore.- The following is a statement from Washington County District Attorney Kevin Barton on the murder trial of Derek Chauvin:

The conviction of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd is an important recognition by our justice system of a terrible crime that we all witnessed. It is also a crucial reminder that much work remains to ensure our society is truly just and equitable for everyone.  The over 130 members of the Washington County DA’s Office are committed to this goal.
