Becky Mehringer, a Deputy District Attorney for Washington County for the past 11 years, was recently awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Cascade Pacific Council of Boy Scouts. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the scouting program and perform community service. It is the highest award given to volunteers at the Council level, and it recognizes distinguished service to America's youth. Previous winners have included Senator Mark Hatfield and Governor Victor Atiyeh, among many others. In receiving this honor, Becky was recognized for her work with Troop 240 in Hillsboro for the past 9 years. She was the Committee Training Chair, has served as a merit badge counselor for over 70 youth, and has mentored 10 Eagle Scouts. She also serves at the District level for Tuality District on Eagle Boards of Review. Most recently her focus has turned towards helping challenged youth benefit from the scouting program and is the Committee Chair for a crew of co-ed youth ages 14-21 with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. Becky enjoys courthouse tours with the Scouts and has involved the County Commissioners, the jail, and local judges to help teach the Scouts about citizenship in the community. When not scouting, Becky serves on several boards, ranging from the Washington County Bar Association, to the Banks Alumni Foundation Scholarship Board, the Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market Board, and for the past six years has helped with the District Attorney's Office fundraiser benefiting the Victims' Assistance Emergency Fund. She also is a member of the Family Law Bench Bar Committee, and helps judge the Mock Trial competitions in Washington County. In the recent past, she has served in the House of Delegates for the State Bar (2007), President of the Washington County Bar Association (2008 and 2009), and as a guest speaker for high schools and junior high schools for career counseling days.
