HILLSBORO, Ore. (February 14, 2023) — Uriel Nava-Montoya, age 29, pled guilty to Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and Public Indecency today, February 14, 2023, in a case prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Rayney Meisel. Judge Janelle Wipper sentenced Mr. Nava-Montoya to 75 months in prison, pursuant to Ballot Measure 11.
On the morning of September 7, 2022, a 12-year-old female witnessed the defendant exposing his genitals at Mountain View Champions Park in Beaverton, Ore., on her way to school. The victim increased her speed after noticing Nava-Montoya watching her. Nava-Montoya sped up to the victim and touched her buttocks. The victim ran by foot until she arrived at Mountain View Middle School, where she reported the incident immediately.
Mr. Nava-Montoya followed the victim to Mountain View Middle School and was found wandering the property by school staff. Nava-Montoya told staff he was on campus to enroll his child in school. Nava-Montoya and was escorted to the administration office, where he provided office staff with a fraudulent address and multiple background stories. The defendant then left Mountain View Middle School and headed to Chehalem Elementary School and attempted the same role as a parent of an incoming student before he was arrested by authorities.
At the time of the incident, Nava-Montoya was on probation for Public Indecency and Sexual Abuse in the third degree for exposing his genitals in a grocery store and touching the buttocks of an adult female just weeks earlier.
The Washington County District Attorney’s Office would like to acknowledge the work of the Washington County Sheriff's Office on this case. This office also commends the courage of the victim and the Mountain View Middle School and Chehalem Elementary School staff for taking appropriate action and aiding in this investigation.
